April 22 will be Earth Day 2010. Earth Day 2010, and indeed each Earth Day, is a good time to bear in mind we all should be good custodians to the environment. Our children inherit just what we leave behind, so don’t leave them trash. If you need to involve the little ones, there are Earth Day Activities for Kids. Plenty of things you can do are incredibly cost-effective, so doing something for Earth Day won’t make need debt relief.
Earth Day started April 22, 1970
Earth Day was a teach in, the first time. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI) began speaking at rallies for more attention to be called to environmental issues in the fall of 1969. He put the idea forward for a nationwide grassroots effort for better environmental practices, and thanks to good media coverage, it picked up an incredible amount of steam. On April 22, 1970, colleges and universities had environmental demonstrations and protests, along with many other organizations. Earth Day and Earth Week were born, and 20 million participated in the first one. It expanded from there, and now Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 in numerous countries worldwide.
So how to proceed??|What can I do}?}
There are plenty of activities that will properly commemorate Earth Day 2010. You can use grass clippings and leaves to start a compost pile. Plant a tree; not only do they spruce up a yard, they can add to property value. (Look into the Arbor Day Foundation for a lot more information.) Give recycling a try. Your area might even reward recycling with cash till payday for certain materials.One couple is paying for their wedding with recycled cans and made national headlines with their project Wedding Cans.
The EPA weighs in on Earth Day
You can look into ideas on the Environmental Protection Agency website. They have a section called Pick 5 for the Environment, and conservation tips for air, power, water, waste, and activism. The EPA website has some good tips for that.
