University of Texas locked up - UT firing this morning

An apparent attack at the University of Texas shut down the entire campus today. One, possibly two gunmen entered the Perry-Castaneda library and began shooting. The only reported injury from the UT shooting was the self-inflicted gunshot that killed the University of Texas shooter. Due to the UT shooting, the University of Texas-Austin campus and some surrounding areas remain on lockdown.

Library was scene of the UT-Austin assault

A masked shooter walked to the Perry-Castaneda library at UT-Austin. This was just as morning classes were beginning. There are conflicting reports as to if there were one or two shooters. Wearing a ski mask and wielding an assault rifle, possibly an AK-47, the shooter ran across campus into the library. The shooter allegedly shot himself after sending gunfire into the floor at the library. Because some witnesses have reported a second shooter, police are nevertheless looking for that second person.

Just one injury in UT shooting

Only the gunman died in the UT-Austin firing. Witnesses say that the shooter was aiming the weapon at the ground. SWAT teams have been called into the UT, as have all emergency services.

Full university lockdown in place

A lockdown of university was instituted as soon as the firing begun. Pupils were asked to stay as safe as possible. The University of Texas made use of Twitter, text messages, and emails to ensure that everyone was informed. The UT campus alert involved the words “STAY AWAY.” The lockdown of campus will continue until the emergency crews have confirmed that campus is safe.
