TSA claims no to armed United States solder - because of finger nail clippers

According to Red State, Transportation Security Administration has an additional reason to hang its head. A recent incident involving a company of soldiers returning home from Afghanistan makes Transportation Security Administration look ridiculous once more. The gear the soldiers brought had already been inspected and approved by U.S. Customs, however Transportation Security Administration felt the have to entirely empty the flight and thoroughly inspect the gun-toting soldiers (minus ammo). They found nail clippers in the bag of one soldier – mission accomplished, TSA. Resource for this article – TSA confiscates nail clippers from gun-toting soldier by Personal Money Store.

M4 carbine rifle or nail clippers worse

Rules were being followed when the TSA confiscated the tiny nail clippers. Compared to the M4 rifle, they were nothing though. Even without ammo, the butt stock of the weapon in the hands of a highly trained soldier would obviously be more disabling to an opponent than a pair of nail clippers. Because people are mad about the full body scanners and groping pat downs, the TSA has already been in the news a lot, and this event is bound to make that happen once again. A Twitter contest called #touchedbytsa where a winner can get an iPod Touch is being held.

More about TSA and the nail clippers

Indianapolis was where the plane landed. Airport security took the 330 passengers into a holding area, Red State reports. All the soldiers on the flight – at least 100 – were carrying firearms, from M4 carbines and M9 pistols to M-240B machine guns. None of the weapons were loaded at all. The U.S. Customs secured all of the ammo too. Customs had already screened the baggage although TSA still wanted the soldiers to all unpack their baggage piece-by-piece.

Red State said bomb-sniffing dogs went over the soldiers' luggage. It took about an hour to do. It had been hours of the soldiers just sitting there. TSA found the nail clippers after inspecting them again. TSA hadn’t known about them up to this point. So far as Red State and other media sources can tell, this had been a thinly disguised TSA power trip. The nail clippers were maybe just a bonus for them, sources suggest.
