Statement of class of 2011 for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

A brand new class is added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame every year. This is in Cleveland, Ohio too. It is an honor to be put to the hall. This is because some of the biggest names in popular audio are in there. There are lots of good artists in this year's class. It includes Alice Cooper, Darlene Love, Phil Spector, Dr. John, Tom Waits and Neil Diamond, BBC reports. One of the biggest snubs within the hall previously was Alice cooper. Many think there is not a fair shake from punk rock and heavy metal too. There were others inducted too. These included session musician Leon Russell, Specialty Records head Art Rupe and Elektra Records head Jac Holzman.

Getting into the Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame only includes artists who released their 1st recording 25 years back. This is what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame explained. Those who are inducted are chosen by a committee that gets together yearly. They meet to discuss which record executives, producers, recording engineers, studio musicians, recording artists and performing artists can be accepted. The Hall selects are sent out with 500 ballots to experts who then vote on it. The nominees are put into the Hall if they are able to get enough votes.

Nominees cause debate

Some feel only popular bands could be nominated into the hall which has brought on lots of debate. Several others are upset that the Rolling Stone magazine, including publisher Jann Wenner, have too much influence in the process which would be why bands they don't care for like Rush, Deep Purple and others don't get nominated.
